Mareike Zimmermann

Mareike (she/her) brings decades of international theatre experience to her work as an intimacy choreographer. As an opera and drama director, Mareike understands artistic visions. As a stagecraft teacher at leading European universities she can assess and deal with the diverse skills of the performers and equally the challenges they may face in the creative process. That’s why supporting theatre productions and university classes as an IC means combining ‘the very best of both of her worlds’. Mareike studied in Cologne and Rome and holds a Masters Degree specializing in German studies, Theatre Studies, and Italian Language. She learned the theatre business on the job as an assistant director and stage manager and later completed further training in theatre management at Theaterakademie Munich. Mareike’s directing work has always been characterized by great physicality and intensive ensemble interaction. At the same time, she always attaches great importance to consent and a mutually appreciative ensemble culture. As a teacher, Mareike integrates body check-ins and a technical language around intimacy work into her regular classes.

As an intimacy choreographer, Mareike offers workshops for specific casts, entire ensembles and university classes as well as for theatre employees in general. She is equally passionate about guiding the entire rehearsal process or simply choreographing specific sequences or scenes.
